Aftercare.

Everyone’s body heals differently, so aftercare may vary based on individual needs.

If you have extremely sensitive skin or a known allergy to medical adhesives, please note that second skin may not be suitable for you. Currently, I am not using second skin on my clients, but if this is your preferred method, please bring your own second skin to the appointment, and I will apply it before you leave.

After your tattoo session, I will securely wrap your fresh tattoo with a temporary bandage. Leave this wrap on for the remainder of the day. In the evening, 1-3 hours before bed, remove the bandage, and gently wash the tattoo with Gold Dial Soap (or a mild, unscented antimicrobial soap). Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel.

Once dry, apply a thin layer of Macondo Supply Salve (available on Instagram) or Aquaphor with clean hands. Allow your tattoo to breathe by not covering it with clothing or anything restrictive.

If your tattoo remains very sensitive or continues to ooze, you can use a clean paper towel to lightly cover the tattoo overnight, securing it with the medical wrap I provided. This will help prevent any contaminants from entering the tattoo and potentially causing an infection.

On the morning of day two, wash your tattoo again and apply a thin layer of moisturizer. It’s essential to avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing over the tattoo for at least two weeks. For the first few days, it’s recommended to wash and moisturize your tattoo twice a day. When you notice scabbing, let your tattoo “dry heal”; minimizing the use of moisturizers. At this point, you may reduce the amount of washes to once a day and only moisturize when needed- which may be once a day or less.

Additional Aftercare Tips:

  • Avoid soaking the tattoo in saunas, baths, pools, or oceans for at least 14 days, until the tattoo has finished scabbing.

  • Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight during the healing process. Once healed, use sunscreen to protect your tattoo and maintain its vibrancy.

  • For fineline or detailed tattoos, avoid over-moisturizing, as this can interfere with the healing process.
